至從Sonic Youth停止活動之後，吉他手Lee Ranaldo重新開始專注在他自己的創作，繼去年發行了《Between the Times and the Tides》，他也組了新團Lee Ranadlo and the Dust，即將在今年十月八號再度發行專輯《Last Night On Earth》，團員包括Sonic Youth的鼓手Steve Shelley以及其他兩位團員Alan Licht和Tim Lüntzel。

去年Lee Ranaldo雖然因為Sandy颶風受困在自家公寓，卻也產生了此張專輯的靈感。對於製作自己的作品，Lee Ranaldo說道：「當你感覺到開了一扇窗進入到他人的世界時是製作個人專輯最棒的地方，可以去體驗他們經歷過的事或是想法，透過他們的眼睛去看事情，最棒的是，你會在裡面找到普遍性。」
